Before & After Samples - Executive Resumes
Before & After Samples - Non Executives
Sally came to us after many years as a VP of sales, business development, and operations ready for a CEO role. Shortly after we completed her new resume and LinkedIn profile and coached her through some of what she called her "baggage", she was approached by two headhunters and advanced to final interview rounds with both. She accepted a COO role for a much larger firm and now makes almost double her salary for a global organization. Sally said it was that "first impression" that did it!
Macy was a senior retail exec for a company in the process of becoming exclusively franchise-owned when she found us. As she would be one of the last corporate employees on payroll, many of her coworkers had already been hired away by Pandora.net, a global jewelry firm. When she learned of a senior position with them that matched her skillset her primary goal was to quickly gain Pandora's attention. We created a more traditional format of her resume so she could apply to a number of other firms, but to ensure she secured Pandora's interest we created this designer version as well to mirror their HR landing page so the recruiters would recognize it appreciate her alignment with their brand.
Lisa's background began with many years in the military, and ended with rapidly progressive senior roles in her family's business. We needed to do some military-to-civilian translations, and then identify as many senior level achievements as possible so that no one could question her expertise in the roles she'd held. She'd worked extremely hard to earn each title and wanted it understood that none were from family obligation or nepotism. She was pleased with the result and reported her confidence soared!
When Chris first contacted us he was just finishing up a graduate degree at Harvard so he could become a public school principal or assistant principal. Since his employment background was limited to teaching, volunteer work, and internships, we needed to flush out his leadership experiences and really spotlight them so we could showcase his readiness to take on a senior administrator role. He also purchased a coaching package so we could help him feel prepared for interviews, smooth out his responses about his leadership readiness, and help him negotiate a higher salary. Within three days of receiving his final draft he secured two out-of-state interview invitations and expects to accept one in DC!
David was a unique case. As a 25-year veteran nurse he had the option of getting a "Professional" resume or the "Executive" one, depending on his career goals. He opted for the Executive version because as he said, he wanted to be "unforgettable" to recruiters. While a more formal resume wouldn't be appropriate for RN roles unless it were for someone seeking an administrator role, we did find a way to position him as a nursing Subject Matter Expert (SME). He was extremely pleased with the result, but even more so by the response and attention it got him. He called back to say we had "changed his life". It seems that the doctors reveiwing resumes for the position he applied for pulled his out of the stack and contacted him to say they are creating a position for him at another facility where he will head up an entire division!
Alice arrived at our doorstep with a six-page resume that had two large timeline gaps and nine jobs in under 14 years. One of our biggest challenges was to help her understand that if we included too much information the recruiter would have no need to contact her. She was so concerned about her chaotic background that she felt her resume needed more detail rather than less. To ease her concerns and still keep the document size manageable we decided the best approach would be to highlight a more extensive list of skills and abilities, which gave her the polish required.
After receiving his B.S in Business Management at the age of 40, Gerald decided he'd treat himself to a "real" resume so that all of his high-end clients offering to help him get his first corporate job would have something powerful to represent him. Because he had an unusally warm and dedicated personality we decided to reflect that in his resume design. We also highlighted more of his strategic thinking, leadership abilities, and administrative skills to increase his chances of being considered. He said he was "blown away" by how it turned out and had no idea he could look that good!
Jorge had spent the past nine years owning small firms, doing volunteer accounting work for his church, and earning money through his stock investments. When he came to us he was looking for more stabilility, but wasn't sure what he should include or leave out in his resume. After an indepth consultation we discovered that investments were his real passion so we curated his experience to glean only those things that supported that vision. He also purchased an hour of coaching so he would know how to represent his new resume and set up his LinkedIn profile, and said afterward he learned more in that hour than he would have ever believed possible.
Adam's previous resume was not getting the results he wanted. It was dry, had no summary, and his tech skills were buried at the bottom. It was as if it was another data set or block of code he was working with, not the vibrant document he'd need to get noticed. The first thing we did was to illustrate his skills and education, and then we worked to do two things: raise the caliber of his verbiage to better match his senior level status, and make his experience "come alive" so that recruiters could grasp his work and management style.
We rarely expect to see other professional writers come to us with their projects, but surprisingly we see more than you might thnk. After several of her own attempts, Tina brought her resume to us and asked us to help her get a specific customer service job at Facebook. She wanted to take a break from writing and do something more fun with the "cool kids". Since Facebook, like most other high-tech firms, is extremely competitive we knew she needed a resume that would really stand out. It also needed to be edgy or a bit more hip, so we went with this custom design that mirrored the Facebook corporate webpage. Tina loved it - as did the recruiter who called to interview her the day after she submitted it!
Mike had worked at the same university for 20 years, but his resume was in sore need of the overhaul required for the higher-paying transfer position he wanted to secure. We revamped his resume, but because he was applying for an internal role where everyone in the organization already knew him we had to be careful not to tout his achievements too loudly. We just needed to suprise them with facts, and remind them of his key achievements. Since we're all overachievers we also reseached the university's press and discovered several awards his group had won and included those too. Mike got the job!
Before & After - New Graduates / Entry-Level
Bill had zero work experience when he came looking for a resume, but had done a bad job of cobbling together a resume on his own. What he lacked in polish though he made up for in intelligence. Robotics is not an area that any resume service is specialized in, so we dug in and did our research. Instead of the usual 6-8 hours we spend designing, writing, and researching for each resume, we spent almost 20 hours ensuring we understood every word and concept associated with his projects so we could create the proper context and phrasing. Bill was stunned. He didn't realize how many details he'd forgotten to include, and was impressed that we could write about them!
Syed was a fun client. He'd recently graduated college and wanted to pursue a career as a business analyst, but was working in as a cashier in a convenience store and didn't know how to break out. We encouraged him to avoid listing his current job and instead focus on the volunteer analyst duties he was providing to a local religious org. Since there was little work history to write about we filled the page more creatively and made it seem more "cutting-edge". We also managed to include all the relevant keywords he needed by describing them as "interests". Additionally, we did some coaching with him to help him understand how to speak about his background, give him job search tips, and help him create a vision for his future. He said he's never felt more deserving than he does now.
